Digital scrapbooking question..?
Anybody have any ideas about getting into it? Not just making the pages, but the actual paper and embellishments and stuff, to sell and/or give away. I am a graphic artist but haven’t really tried anything quite like this before..
I’m guessing you use Photoshop/illustrator? Essential software to have. If you are a graphic artist you will have no trouble converting your skills.
You could start by buidling a stock collection specific to digital scrapbooking. So for instance..
1. Take your own macro digital photos of fabrics, handmade paper,crumpled paper, card etc at a high res of 300dpi.
2. From these, create as stock of 12″ x12″ ‘papers. Now you can recolour these as you wish.
3. Create layer styles from your textured papers, and also look around for other commercial use layer styles. This makes it far quicker to produce ‘elements’ – you draw a design, apply the papery layer style, and voila shabby scrap imagery!
4. Keep abreast of current trends in digi-scrapping, participate in forums, and keep improving your skills.
5. Have a good store of photoshop brushes and repeat patterns at a high res to use, and also create your own.
6. Scour thrift shops for interesting buttons, ribbons, brooches etc that you can photograph to make into digital elements.
Your collection of stock is THE most important part of creating scrap elements. Make sure it is for commercial use, or better still created yourself. Once you have a large library of basics to use it is much faster to create layouts.
Just a few ideas – be warned though, its time consuming and life consuming!
